Deane Claims Drift Masters 2026 Opener in Budapest — Wiecek Close Behind
James Deane launched his 2026 Drift Masters title campaign with a dominant victory at the Hungaroring, edging Worthouse teammate Piotr Wiecek in a tense final.
James Deane opened the 2026 Drift Masters season in the most emphatic fashion possible, defeating Worthouse teammate Piotr Wiecek in a breathtaking final at the Hungaroring to claim 100 points at Round 1.
The Irish champion was outstanding from the first run of qualifying, showing a level of precision and angle that had rivals shaking their heads in admiration. His run through the competition bracket was near-flawless, despatching Nicolas Delorme in the semis before a tense, high-stakes final against Wiecek.
"Beating Piotr is never easy — he is one of the best in the world," said Deane after the podium ceremony. "The car felt incredible all weekend. We came into 2026 with clear goals and winning Round 1 is the perfect start."
Wiecek made the final after victories over Dominik Bak and Duane McKeown, and pushed Deane hard from the first chase run — the two Worthouse teammates trading tenths of a point across the full course length. Delorme claimed third, while Bak rounded out the top four.
With six rounds still to come, the 2026 Drift Masters championship is wide open. But Deane's dominant form will have everyone on notice heading to Zandvoort in May.
